Restoration of Paisley Afro Girl: A Celebration of Vibrancy and Rebirth
This smaller Paisley Afro Girl piece tells a story of restoration, healing, and renewal. Like its larger counterpart, it was damaged by the storm at the 2024 market, but this piece emerged from the restoration process with an even more vibrant connection to its original design.
While the colors weren’t as muted as in the larger piece, the petals still required careful attention. Using my sculpting tools, I meticulously re-sculpted each petal, breathing new life into the piece and allowing the intricate details to shine once again.
The background of this artwork was painted in blue, symbolizing the return of the blue sky after the storm—a beautiful reminder that after every challenge, a period of clarity and hope always follows. The blue serves as a symbolic bridge between the storm’s aftermath and the vibrant recovery that followed.
This piece carries the same emotional resonance as the larger Paisley, but with a stronger connection to the original vibrant beauty. The restoration process itself is a testament to strength, and this piece now stands as a symbol of how we can find resilience and renewal even after life’s storms. The colors and details reflect not only the powerful legacy of my late mother, but also the joy and healing that comes when we allow ourselves to rise again, even in the face of adversity.
