"Full Circle: Africa in Bloom" is a deeply meaningful piece created from the recycled scraps of my very first paper flower workshop in Philadelphia. This workshop brought together a group of 12 incredible women who experienced the art of paper flower sculpting using beautiful, African-inspired printed paper. The paper used in this piece is not just material; it’s a reflection of culture, heritage, and community.
The vibrant patterns on the paper immediately reminded me of my mother—her love for color and vibrancy, and the rich cultural heritage she passed down to me. My mother was a dedicated artist who held workshops to teach others the timeless art of beading and basketry, and following in her creative footsteps has always been a driving force behind my work.
This piece represents a full-circle moment in my creative journey, as I’ve taken the recycled scraps—fragments of stories, creativity, and community—and transformed them into the continent of Africa itself.
